John Lennon's murderer was today denied parole again, reports the New York Daily News. The paper reported earlier that five letters recommending his parole had been received. One letter opposing it came from Yoko Ono.
The paper said he is eligible to be considered for parole again in two years.

This ad from UMG, with MJ Kim's picture that was sent out with the announcement that Paul McCartney was returning to Capitol Records, appeared in trade papers this week.
The cover of a Japanese brochure, above, and the Japanese trailer, below, for "Eight Days a Week: The Touring Years." You can order the vinyl or the CD here from Amazon for the U.S. "Live at the Hollywood Bowl" or here for the UK version.
A preview of a second track has just been posted by The Beatles online from the new "Live at the Hollywood Bowl" album. Listen to an excerpt of "A Hard Day's Night" below. |A copy of a real "Pure McCartney" (MPL/Concord Music Group)|
Word on the McCartney website board is that there are fake "Pure McCartney" CDs being sold by some third-party dealers on Amazon.com. At least two users have reported them.
One user reported the back cover on the fake had a brighter white paper stock with a darker and blurry font. The UPC code had the seller's name over the original bar code. On the front cover, the image is much darker, pixilated, with a loss of detail in the shadows on Paul's face, slightly pixilated texts and blurry gold font with a different sheen. Inside, the black and white images are darker and more crude. Gold toned images are either faint or too dark with little contrast. The inside covers show signs of being handled.
We're hoping to get more on this, but for now... (thanks to Patti M.) (And just to ease some minds, we're talking about third-party purchases. If you bought them directly from Amazon.com and not a third-party, you should be ok.)

“It wasn’t like we’d placed a wreath on the live Beatles,” Ringo tells MOJO’s Andrew Male. “The rooftop gig showed that we could still do that stuff. And we could maybe have gone out live again. It didn’t happen. But it was never like, Oh, that’s dead, the Beatles are dead. It was always a possibility that we would do it again. (to Paul) and you, in fact, tried one time to get us to go out again, didn’t you?”
“But you didn’t listen to me!” says McCartney in mock outrage. “I listened,” replied Ringo. “It was the others!”
You can order it online here.
- Some rare photos of the Beatles in Canada in 1964 are here. Does Paul look a wee bit "under the influence" in the second photo? (Thanks to Chuck Pattio.)
- So where does Paul McCartney's return to Capitol Records leave the reissue series? Apparently, unsettled. We still don't know when "Flowers in the Dirt" will happen. And we've heard that a DVD considered for a later release is on hold because of the changeover. The catalog switch to Capitol won't happen until mid-2017, though.
Handed out Friday night to special event ticket holders at San Francisco's AT&T Park at the Giants' game with the Mets which the Giants won 8-1.
Order the vinyl or the CD for the U.S. version or here for the UK version of "The Beatles: Live at the Hollywood Bowl," coming Sept. 9.

As the Beatles "Eight Days a Week" film gets closer, there's some news to be had. A long list of U.S. theaters to show the film has been posted online. The theaters for other countries are on the site, too, but the U.S. list has finally been more available. (We kept getting the European lists.)
We've been listening to the new "Live at the Hollywood Bowl" CD for about a week. We'll talk about it in a little more detail (no audio, sorry) on the next "Things We Said Today" show, but suffice to say that despite our misgivings that there isn't more on the disc, what's there sounds wonderful. For those used to the bootlegs (and who isn't?), the audio has been cleaned up and, as Allan Kozinn notes in our discussion on the show, the voices seemed to have had some reverb added. The new show should be up as early as Wednesday and possibly by Thursday on our Podbean site, on the show's YouTube channel, my personal YouTube channel and on iTunes. We're also on WCRP1. Subscribe to us on iTunes and you can have the show downloaded automatically when it's available.
And finally, look for the video for "Boys" to be used to promote the film, sources tell us. You won't find it on the BeatlesVEVO YouTube channel at the moment, though it was there recently, which is a good hint that something might be in the works.
And thanks to a certain C.F. for the picture of the ad in the September Record Collector, shown below.
And here's a review from the Hollywood Reporter..
